Out of the mouths of babes. A few weeks ago, my young son suggested that I start naming an “employee of the month” so our terrific employees will know how much they mean to us. Or as he put it “so they don’t hate their boss!” I have a great team, so deciding to name an employee of the month was easy. What wasn’t easy was choosing our very first E.O.T.M. But, I finally decided on Sandy Glotfelty. Sandy has been working for VersaTel Solutions as a bookkeeper for about four years. What did you do before working from home?
I was a stay at home mom for 12 years before working from home. Back in my “previous life,” I was an auditor, consultant and controller for 8 years.
What made you decide to work from home?
I was looking for a way to keep my brain sharp and get a little bit of extra money for fun activities for my family.
I liked the idea of working for a woman-owned business that offered options for me to work from home.
What do you like most about working for VersaTel Solutions?
I enjoy the flexibility. My clients are very “hands-off” and I am able to do most of their work the first half of the month. I like that if I wanted to, I could work in the evening after my family has gone to bed. Sevana approaches me from time to time to take on additional clients. I feel comfortable that I can agree to take on or to decline work as it fits my schedule.
Has working from home, especially this year been a challenge?
It’s been interesting to manage the use of wi-fi in my house with my children and husband home. But otherwise, all of my work has been done remotely. My last client that I had been doing work for on-site switched to Quickbooks online on March 12… kind of the day everything started to shut down.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My family and I enjoy traveling. Our favorite local spots are Chincoteague Island, VA, and Canaan Valley, WV. I love NFL football, specifically the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I have traveled to 15 countries and to 4 of the 7 continents. Berlin, Germany is my favorite international city.
Tell us about a time you thought you wouldn’t succeed, but ultimately did.
During the pandemic, I’ve tried to do lots of home repair on my own. The biggest was tackling and successfully replacing a hard-wired garbage disposer! It took 3 hours and was really frustrating but I replaced it and it works!
What do you see yourself doing three years from now?
Preparing for retirement and dreaming of moving to Wisconsin!
